Riverbend Renewal is a registered nonprofit corporation in Illinois and a federally recognized 501(c)(3) organization. We are a community-focused organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and restoring Alton’s historic homes. We believe that maintaining the character of our historic city strengthens neighborhoods and fosters a sense of place—because empty lots don’t make great neighbors.

Our Early Initiatives
Though we are just beginning, we are actively building a foundation to support historic preservation in Alton:

• Craftspeople & Contractor Network: We are creating a directory of skilled tradespeople experienced with historic homes, giving homeowners and property owners resources to hire professionals who can help restore and rehabilitate their properties.

• Preservation Advocacy: We identify at-risk historic properties and work to promote preservation over demolition.

• Hands-On Workshops & Education: We offer workshops in historic trades and restoration techniques, putting skills directly into the hands of participants. We also share the stories and history of the buildings and neighborhoods that make Alton unique through lectures and educational events.

Our Vision for the Future
As Riverbend Renewal grows, we aim to expand our programs and services to create opportunities in the skilled trades, connecting individuals with apprenticeships and training while supporting job creation. By fostering a network of like-minded community partners, organizations, businesses, and individuals, we hope to make preservation accessible, practical, and rewarding for everyone invested in Alton’s history.
